Motion sensors are best installed indoors, in open areas of high traffic. For optimal coverage, place a motion sensor in rooms you enter when arriving home. Avoid pointing them toward the ground, as they may sense pet activity. Also avoid pointing at heating vents and windows, as they will falsely detect motion based on heat. Consider placing high on a shelf to avoid pet activity below, eliminating the use of fastening hardware. Or attach the mount in a room’s corner on a ceiling or wall, making sure the sensor itself remains upright.
